Of all things you may need on the Homestead – a fully automatic crossbow should top the list. I know I need one. Firing just one bolt from this crossbow is nice but firing multiple bolts is pure firepower.
After working on the automatic-firing crossbow for quite some time to figure out how to make a working model, Jorge came up with a very unique but simple gearing mechanism, the rack and pinion system. Instead of two circular gears, his rack and pinion system has one straight, toothed piece, and one circular gear that only has teeth on one part of it.
It translates circular movement (the spinning of a drill, in this case) to linear movement (the cocking of the crossbow).
