The way to get your knife blade razor sharp is to strop it. Stropping is polishing your blade to remove all debris, all minor nicks and all tiny grooves from it. There are several ways to do this – you can use stone or even leather straps.
My grandparents lived on the homestead most of their lives. One of the greatest tools my grandfather had was a sharp knife. He would always keep his knives sharp. Even when he “retired” (he was in his mid-80s) he would visit us and sharpen my parent’s knives.
Funny, to see him rummage through all the drawers looking for knives to sharpen. He would lay them all out on the table and use one of his many sharpeners. Before no time he would have razor sharp knives. I wished I would’ve watched him closer.
Here’s a great video that David, from Ultimate Survival Tips, shows you how to use the process called strop to sharpen a knife razor sharp.
