I have made a number of snares and the one thing you have to make sure of is to make it so that the caught animal can’t break it. This has happened to me several times. Just when I thought I had strong enough wire or string, the animal broke it and was free. Wire may not be strong enough. Of course, my snares were too simple and not complicated.
There are a few tricks you can use to make sure that whatever you catch will stay put in the snare. The nice thing about setting snares is that you can rig up a few and then get on with your other work. Your snares will work while you’re gone – a big time saver.
