When you drill a hole or two in metal you’re going to have drill shaving spirals; the ones you think to throw away.
But hold on a sec!
Don’t throw the shavings away, use them to forge a knife.
The shavings are small and malleable and when they’re put inside a forge, a knife can be made.
That’s what we find from the Green Beetle:
Two different techniques are attempted using spiral drill shavings combined with 1084 powdered steel to forge knives.
The guard seen is nickel silver, the pin is copper, handle material is Bois d’Arc (Osage Orange) and the spacers end up being mild steel. I may revisit this project in the future because it was, well, just super.

“I bought 3 of these lanterns. They are solar powered and hold a charge for hours. The lanterns inflate so you can broadcast the light across a dark room. These survival lanterns are better than relying on candles.”
